My replacement harddisk is back and I forgot to check whether I got dumped a 5400rpm instead of 7200rpm.. and now I feel too lazy to open up that box again.
Oh well, I’ll find out from the OS interface, I thought… and installed Windows on it (don’t hate; I need it for game development) AND……. I still find the OS doing drugs after all this years! 😉

I didn’t yet find a workaround for this.
If anyone has connected successfully from Linux to MacOSX, please do drop a link in comments. 🙂
UPDATE: It worked. A colleague (Bharat) suggested using RAW encoding.

Harmful Google?
Looks like Google’s site rating system was broken for few moments.

Slash vs Backslash
[wikipedia]
In DOS and Microsoft Windows, either the backslash or slash can be used as the delimiter between directories and filenames in path expressions. This is in contrast to Unix paths and Internet URLs (web addresses), which only use the forward slash.
[/wikipedia]
If you are an IETE student, you would probably visit the Detailed Syllabus page around this time of a year. Yep, it’s exam time.
If the IIS 404 page alarms you, play it calm.
Just replace the backslashes in url with forward slashes, press enter and wait for your nice syllabus page to load. 🙂
IETE web admin must watch out for these while writing any links 😛

Why OSM when I have Google maps?
One of the students who attended our Open Street Map drive was in a trauma throughout the meet, musing why people make effort to mark places on Open Street Map when `The` Google maps is already there.
mbuf and I tried various examples, but we could see a `?` dangling on his head. Days ago, I came across one situation with Google maps; hope this helps ( see the image carefully ).

Yahoomail CSS messed?
This is the same with Compose/Reply (Ah! Forgot to try Forward – guess it’ll be the same).
The first time I logged in this morning, it was listing my menu items and any links in vertical (No styling). This usually happens when the CSS sheet gets replaced or the page cannot read/find the CSS.
After about three refreshes, styling seems to be back but still has issues. Yahoo! Fix it fast guys.

Weekend windows work
Its been ages (well, months may be) since I installed Windows. My last weekend project needed me to install about 48 copies of WindowsXP-Home edition for a new testing & training center – Primora.
Call me lucky, there were 4 people from the machine vendors and my gf also volunteered to lend a hand. All in all, the machine build with peripherals and windows installation on all 48, took 6 of us the whole day.
Since my days at Satyam, I’ve not been involved in such a scale of installation. Another similarity – Primora purchased all original licensed Microsoft products for its students. We rarely get to see any testing & training center do that.
The class rooms are real good, think of anything from new powerful machines, to sleek TFT monitors, full length board, projector and Air Cooled rooms. That’s huge investment for a start-up. It is backed up by the world class experience (~15 years on average) of partners of the company. And it is not their first start-up.
One of a kind training center, that the students should be on look out for.
It’s inaugural batch starts today; I’m sure Primora will rock.
